Conducting Environmental Forensics and Cleanup

“Our office was in charge of a site remediation that had diesel fuel contamination in the soil column. This was a standard dig and haul operation with multiple locations in need of excavation. Numerous cross sections needed to be drafted not only as figures during post remediation but also in real time for our clients to keep them informed of the progress. The dynamic nature of CrossView allowed us to produce this information in near real time for our analysis during the excavations. It also provided our clients concise graphical status reports, and ultimately the timely production of over 50 cross section figures for the final report. As a project manager and Professional Geologist I find that CrossView has greatly improved my staff’s workflow and figure production.“

Visualizing Lithology and Static Water Levels

“We have a contour map of the bottom of the Eagle Sandstone formation that was produced back in the 1930’s. This map is of an area we are currently doing a groundwater study and the Eagle is the principle aquifer. Since this map was made in the 1930’s, before modern mapping techniques, we have often wondered how accurate the contours are. Also, it’s an interesting map because it contours the bottom of a formation and we are usually looking for a top of a formation! So I scanned the map, geo-referenced it, then digitized the contours in ArcMap and created a grid in CrossView from the contours. Using oil and gas well logs from the area, I ran the grid and the well logs through the program one in a north-south profile and one west-east profile. The grid of the contours falls in the middle of the Eagle formation on the well logs and is pretty consistent on both cross-sections. It shows that the gentlemen who made this map in the 1930’s we’re about 500 to 750 ft. off from what we see from the well logs! Without CrossView we’d still be looking at inaccurate data, which makes CrossView a 10 out of 10 overall.”
